However, treachery abounds, from the wealthy merchants of his own kingdom to greedy former allies, and even Vlad's own family cannot be trusted. Against overwhelming odds his small army begins to push back the invaders, only to have personal tragedy lead Vlad into a downward spiral that results in his damnation and begins his dark journey as the historic Count Dracula.
